LISA JUNTUNEN ROOS
Born 1988 in Västerås, currently living in Stockholm, Sweden.
I have a background in textile craft and a journeyman certificate in the handloom profession since 2015 and a master in fine arts from 2020.
My artistic practice is a multifaceted exploration, with one foot firmly rooted in traditional textile crafts. I delve into the making process, the role of tradition, and its impact on national identity. Simultaneously, my other foot steps into the realm of artistic research and design, where the first pillar transforms into a unique means of artistic expression. My works serve as a constant exploration of my bicultural identity, forming a narrative in chapters.
It’s important to me that the material I work with is independent, by which I mean that the material and the technique possess a certain something, and I can use that something as a springboard to create my own narrative. From an applied art perspective, I look at the people that constitute society. Making has always been close to people, and every story has a material.
Mitt konstnärskap har flera bottnar, jag står med ett ben i den traditionella textila slöjden där jag undersöker görandet, traditionens roll och konsekvens för utövare samt nationell identitet. Ett annat ben har jag i konstnärlig forskning och gestaltning där det tidigare benet formuleras och tar sig uttryck. Mitt arbete är också ett konstant undersökande av min egen identitet som tvåkulturell där mina verk blir ett historieberättande i kapitelform.
Det är viktigt för mig att det material jag arbetar med är självständigt, med det menar jag att material och teknik i sig bär på något och att jag kan använda detta ’något' som en språngbräda för mitt eget berättande. Ur ett konsthantverkligt perspektiv tittar jag på samhällets människor. Görandet har funnits nära människan alltid och varje berättelse har ett material.
